1First look revealed

Samsung's smart glasses, developed in collaboration with Google and eyewear brands Gentle Monster and Warby Parker, showcased two new designs for the first time. The boxy black and rounded red-brown frames were introduced ahead of their launch this fall.

2Technical specifications

Powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon AR1 Gen 1 chip, the glasses offer 9 hours of use on a single charge. With the charging case, total usage extends to 56 hours. The design features a camera, recording LED, and hidden speaker/microphone grilles, weighing barely more than standard glasses.

3AI integration

Users can choose between Google Gemini or Samsung Bixby. The glasses promise AI features like live translation, message summaries, navigation guidance, and camera image analysis, offering an experience similar to Meta's Ray-Ban collaboration.

4Privacy measures

Like Meta's smart glasses, the camera won't operate if the recording LED is blocked. Samsung Mobile EVP Jaein Choi called this an 'industry-shared problem' and mentioned working on additional safeguards against privacy concerns.

5Design variety

Beyond Gentle Monster's angular black frame and Warby Parker's rounded red-brown model, new designs are reportedly in development. The company hasn't disclosed pricing or exact launch date yet, positioning the product in the premium segment.

6Industry positioning

Entering direct competition with Meta in smart glasses market, Samsung aims to differentiate through design collaborations and long battery life. However, privacy concerns and risks of being labeled 'creep glasses' remain critical adoption barriers for the product.
