1Internet-Famous Eagle Jackie
A bald eagle rescued by the Los Angeles County Parks San Dimas Raptor Rescue is believed to be the internet-famous Jackie. Jackie and her mate Shadow have captivated millions with their 24/7 livestream from their nest in Big Bear Valley.
2Rescue Operation
On July 17, an eagle found near Dana Point Park was involved in a brief altercation with two juvenile eagles. The eagle used its talons to fend off the others but was unable to fly. The rescue team transferred the eagle to a specialized care facility.
3Jackie's Disappearance
Friends of Big Bear Valley (FOBBV) reported that Jackie had not been seen on their cameras for several days. However, it is unclear how many eagles are in the Big Bear Lake area, making it difficult to confirm if it is indeed Jackie.
4Jackie and Shadow's Chicks
Jackie and Shadow laid two new eggs in 2024, which successfully hatched. The chicks were named Sandy and Luna. They will remain in the nest for 10-14 weeks until they develop the ability to fly.
5Threats to the Chicks
While in the nest, the chicks face threats from predatory birds such as hawks, ravens, and other eagles. Inclement weather also poses significant risks to their survival.
6Jackie and Shadow's Future
Environmental groups have launched a $10 million fundraising campaign to protect Jackie and Shadow's foraging areas. The campaign aims to safeguard the eagles' habitat from development.
