Premium subscribers can now enjoy high-resolution content without switching to Edge or Safari. However, this feature is currently only available for Windows 11 users. Mac users still need to use Safari for 4K content. ## Updated Chrome Required To experience 4K Netflix, you first need Chrome 117 or later. After updating your browser, ensure your Windows 11 OS is also up-to-date. Netflix's Premium subscription is mandatory as Ultra HD content is exclusively available in this package. ## Hardware Requirements 4K streaming requires Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 or newer, AMD Radeon RX 400 series, or compatible Intel/AMD processors. Some systems may need Microsoft's HEVC Video Extensions. Additionally, a 4K display supporting 60Hz and HDCP 2.2 copy protection are necessary. ## Settings and Verification When opening Netflix in Chrome, ensure playback quality is set to 'Auto' or 'High'. The content you watch must also be available in 4K Ultra HD. You can verify you're actually streaming in 4K by checking playback statistics. ## Bad News for Mac Users Unfortunately, this update currently only covers Windows users. Chrome on macOS still maxes out at 1080p resolution. Mac users must continue using Safari for 4K content. Netflix is expected to bring this feature to Chrome on Mac soon. ## Testing Process and Results Tests conducted with an RTX 5070 GPU and 165Hz 4K monitor showed flawless 4K playback of Stranger Things, Extraction, and The Gray Man. When verified with playback statistics, the difference in image quality was remarkably noticeable. ## User Experience Revolution 4K support in Chrome provides significant convenience for users tired of constantly switching browsers. Especially for those who use Chrome for daily tasks on Windows, they won't need to switch to Edge for Netflix anymore. This means a substantial increase in streaming satisfaction. ## Future Expectations While Netflix's 4K support in Chrome is currently Windows-only, this step marks an important milestone in cross-browser compatibility. Mac users are particularly hoping to gain access to this experience. Tech giants removing such restrictions will positively impact consumer experiences. ## Sources covering this story - https://www.androidauthority.com/how-to-watch-netflix-4k-on-chrome-3695889/ — --- _Summary written by Brifing from the original reporting.
