LEGO Reinterpretation of Gustav Klimt’s ‘The Kiss’
A LEGO fan recreated Klimt’s iconic artwork with 2,850 pieces.
1Klimt’s Golden Touch
Gustav Klimt’s ‘The Kiss’ is an iconic masterpiece adorned with gold leaf. LEGO designer CYM-Create_Your_Mind recreated this effect using pearl gold LEGO pieces, merging art and toy worlds. The original dimensions and square format were meticulously preserved.
2Attention to Detail
The mosaic masterfully reflects the characteristic features of the female and male figures from Klimt’s work. Circular patterns on the woman’s dress and rectangles on the man’s robe pay homage to the artist’s gender representations. Each of the 2,850 pieces was carefully placed.
3Artist’s Traces
Klimt’s original signature was replicated in LEGO form in the corner. Additionally, the designer included a seated Klimt minifigure beside the piece, honoring the artist’s humble personality. These details add depth to the project.
4Technical Challenges
Achieving the correct gold tones in LEGO required significant engineering skill. Layered tiles and plates were designed to reflect light like real gold leaf. Preserving facial details at mosaic resolution is also remarkable.
5LEGO Ideas Process
The project has currently garnered 759 supporters on LEGO Ideas. It has 527 days left to reach the 5,000 votes needed for official review. The artwork continues to attract art and LEGO enthusiasts alike.
6Democratization of Art
This project symbolizes the transformation of high art into an accessible form. Klimt’s work can now live not only in museums but also in the homes of LEGO fans. The intersection of art with different disciplines fuels creativity.
