1Project's Core Philosophy

Guohua Heyuejia International Senior Living Center challenges China's traditional elderly care model. Instead of large, low-density facilities in suburbs, it's designed in an urban location. This approach aims to facilitate seniors' access to family visits, public services, and social networks. The project is located in Taopu Smart City within Shanghai's Putuo District.

2Architectural Details and Scale

Spanning 43,000 square meters, the project was completed in 2024. Led by GN Architects' Guan Yiqun and Wu Qingzhe, the design team included Dai Aidi, Jin Xiaoyan, and Guo Lijiang. Interior design was handled by Shanghai Shiga Architectural Design Studio, while construction documentation was managed by Shanghai Institute of Architectural Design & Research Co., Ltd.

3Urban Integration

The project offers a model that maintains seniors' connection to daily city life. Unlike traditional suburban facilities, Guohua Heyuejia provides easy access to medical services, cultural events, and transportation networks. This approach aims to reduce social isolation risks for elderly residents.

4Design Team and Collaborations

Alongside GN Architects, specialists from various fields contributed to the project. Zhongnan Curtain Wall was responsible for facade design. Professionals like Sun Yue, Guan Qingyu, and Mei Ning participated in the design process. This multidisciplinary approach aimed to address both functional and aesthetic needs.

5Quality-of-Life Focused Design

The center goes beyond providing shelter, aiming to enhance residents' quality of life. Common areas were planned to encourage social interaction. The facility includes activity spaces designed to support physical and mental health of residents.

6Impact on Urban Planning

Guohua Heyuejia establishes a new model for locating elderly care facilities in urban centers. This approach aims to meet aging population needs while enriching urban fabric. The project could serve as a reference point for future similar developments.

7Technological Integration

Located in Taopu Smart City, the facility incorporates modern technologies. Smart building systems, security solutions, and health monitoring technologies enhance resident comfort and safety. This technological infrastructure was designed to support independent living for seniors.

8Industry Significance

Guohua Heyuejia offers innovative solutions for China's rapidly aging population. The urban elderly care model addresses growing needs in major cities. The project demonstrates how architectural design can provide solutions to societal challenges.
