Binance Launches 24/7 USD/BRL Perpetual Contract with 100x Leverage
Crypto exchange expands derivatives offerings with FX perpetuals, following Bybit's lead.
1Binance's new FX perpetual
Binance is introducing a 24/7 perpetual contract for USD/BRL, settling in USDT with up to 100x leverage. The contract provides synthetic exposure without physical currency delivery. Trading begins on September 21, operated by ADGM-regulated Nest Exchange. This follows Bybit's launch of three major FX perpetuals earlier in September, indicating a growing trend among crypto exchanges to offer currency derivatives.
2Pricing mechanism
Binance will use third-party FX prices during conventional market hours, switching to an index from its own order book on weekends and holidays. This dual approach maintains continuous trading but may cause price divergence when institutional quotes are unavailable. The method contrasts with traditional FX CFDs that rely on bilateral broker-client contracts, offering instead exchange-book liquidity with stablecoin collateral.
3Bybit's earlier move
Bybit launched EUR/USD, GBP/USD, and USD/JPY perpetuals 13 days before Binance's announcement, also offering 100x leverage through its Unified Trading Account. Kraken entered the FX perpetual market earlier in April 2025 with five currency pairs at 50x leverage. These crypto-native products differ from traditional FX derivatives by using exchange order books rather than bilateral contracts between brokers and clients.
4Institutional context
The expansion occurs alongside growing institutional activity in traditional FX markets. CME reported record 4.41 million open FX futures/options contracts this month, with asset managers holding over $200 billion in notional exposure. While CME serves institutional clients with cleared derivatives, crypto exchanges target retail traders with high-leverage perpetuals using stablecoin margin structures developed for digital asset markets.
5Operational details
Binance's USD/BRL contract will be cleared and settled by Nest Clearing and Custody, with availability subject to jurisdictional restrictions. The exchange hasn't disclosed additional currency pairs planned for launch. Unlike traditional FX products with fixed maturities, these perpetuals use recurring funding payments to maintain position alignment with spot prices indefinitely.
6Market differentiation
Crypto-style perpetuals offer distinct advantages: 24/7 trading, higher leverage (up to 100x vs. CME's typical 50x), and stablecoin settlement. They appeal particularly to traders familiar with crypto derivatives infrastructure. However, weekend pricing reliance on exchange order books rather than institutional quotes may increase tracking error during traditional market closures.
7Regulatory considerations
Binance's use of ADGM-regulated Nest Exchange for operations reflects ongoing compliance efforts amid global regulatory scrutiny. The jurisdictional restrictions mentioned suggest careful market-by-market rollout. This contrasts with CME's established regulatory framework but aligns with crypto exchanges' typical approach of operating through licensed entities in specific jurisdictions.
8Industry implications
The back-to-back launches by Bybit and Binance signal crypto exchanges' strategic push into FX derivatives, blurring lines between traditional and digital asset markets. While targeting crypto-native traders initially, these products may attract FX speculators seeking higher leverage and continuous trading. Their success could prompt further innovation in cross-asset crypto derivatives.
