Volkswagen's smartglasses for eBikes enhance rider safety
New tech from VW makes cycling safer with integrated smart features
1Next-gen riding experience
Volkswagen introduces smartglasses specifically designed for its eBike series in collaboration with N+. Unlike conventional smartglasses, these prioritize riding safety with features like rearview camera and blind spot alerts, marking a significant innovation in cycling tech.
2Technical specifications
Weighing just 47 grams, VW smartglasses feature a Sony MicroOLED display with 640x640 resolution. With 8-hour battery life, the device works seamlessly with both Android and iOS. Eye-tracking technology enhances user interaction for a hands-free experience.
3Integrated safety systems
The Smart View system provides cyclists with an HD rear camera and blind spot warnings, displaying crucial data like speed, distance and battery status. Information appears either on the handlebar screen or directly in the smartglasses' lenses for minimal distraction.
4Complete riding ecosystem
Beyond smartglasses, the VW eBike series offers complementary accessories like Smart Lights and Smart Helmet. The intelligent helmet features integrated LEDs that show braking and turning signals, creating a comprehensive safety solution for urban riders.
5Performance and pricing
Powered by Yamaha units, VW eBikes deliver 250W power with 100-mile range per charge. While base models start at $4,000, smartglasses add $500 to the price. A fully equipped setup reaches $5,250, positioning these as premium micromobility solutions.
6Micromobility revolution
Volkswagen's initiative strengthens the role of eBikes in urban transportation. These tech-enhanced solutions not only improve safety but transform the urban mobility experience. The product line is expected to launch between October-December 2026.
