Enforcement Directorate Raids Punjab MLA Over Land Compensation Scam
Authorities investigate alleged money laundering involving wrongful highway compensation and fraudulent property acquisitions.
1Raids on MLA Premises
The Enforcement Directorate conducted search operations across seven locations linked to Amandeep Kaur Arora, a physician and MLA from Moga, Punjab. These raids, carried out on November 4, targeted her family members and associates. The investigation operates under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2002, focusing on alleged financial irregularities.
2Highway Compensation Fraud
The investigation centers on the wrongful disbursement of over Rs 1 crore in compensation for land acquired for National Highway No. 754A. Authorities allege that revenue records were manipulated to facilitate these payments. The funds were initially credited to the bank account of Dilkush Kumari before being frozen by the bank.
3Evidence and Recoveries
During the searches, officials recovered incriminating documents and electronic devices. These materials reportedly point toward the acquisition of benami properties, which are assets held in the name of another person to conceal the true owner. Investigators are currently examining these items to establish a clear link between the MLA and the assets.
4Scope of Property Manipulation
The ED investigation uncovered a pattern of fraudulent transfers involving government, municipal, and charitable lands. Specific sites include properties on Zira Road, Civil Lines, and Railway Road in Moga. The probe suggests these assets were transferred to relatives and associates through the systematic falsification of official property documents and revenue records.
5Institutional Involvement
The premises searched included a hospital-cum-de-addiction center associated with the MLA. This facility is part of the broader inquiry into how the accused allegedly diverted and siphoned off compensation funds. The ED is scrutinizing the financial operations of these entities to determine the extent of the alleged misappropriation of public resources.
6Initial Police FIR
The ED probe originated from an FIR registered by the Punjab Police at the Dharamkot station. The initial case targeted individuals including Navdeep Singh, a patwari, and Dilkush Kumari. The state police have already filed a chargesheet against Navdeep Singh, providing the foundational evidence that led federal agencies to initiate their own investigation.
7Unaccounted Cash Allegations
Beyond the highway compensation case, investigators are looking into the acquisition of residential properties in Moga. The ED claims these transactions involved suspected unaccounted cash, suggesting a wider network of illicit financial activity. This aspect of the probe aims to trace the proceeds of crime generated through the alleged fraudulent property transfers.
8Next Steps in Investigation
As the ED continues to analyze the seized electronic devices and documents, the focus remains on tracing the flow of illicit funds. The agency will likely summon the accused for further questioning based on the evidence gathered. The outcome of this probe will determine potential legal consequences for the MLA and her associates.
