Klook Cofounder Ethan Lin on How the U.S. Can Help Grow One of Asia’s Largest Travel Platforms
Klook, one of Asia's largest travel platforms, sets its sights on the U.S. market.
1The Birth of Klook
Ethan Lin and Eric Gnock Fah founded Klook after facing challenges during their trip to Nepal. Inspired by the difficulties in travel planning, they decided to create a platform to address these gaps. This idea led them to leave investment banking and venture into entrepreneurship.
2Rapid Growth
Klook launched its first mobile app in 2015 and quickly expanded across Asia. The platform was designed for independent travelers and achieved unicorn status in 2018. Today, 80% of its customers are based in the Asia-Pacific region.
3Focus on the U.S. Market
Klook aims to increase its transaction volume from users outside Asia. The U.S. has become a significant market, especially for Western travelers interested in Asian destinations. This is part of the platform's global expansion strategy.
4IPO Plans
Klook filed for an IPO on the New York Stock Exchange in November 2025. However, due to market conditions, the listing was postponed to 2026. The company is focusing on strengthening its financial performance during this period.
5Young Travelers
Klook targets millennials and Gen Z by offering unique experiences. This demographic prefers authentic activities over popular tourist spots. The platform leverages social media to reach this audience.
6Content Strategy
Klook launched its creator program in 2023, collaborating with over 30,000 'Kreators' across 88 markets. This strategy aims to boost brand awareness while inspiring young travelers.
7Future Goals
Klook aims to capitalize on outbound travel trends from Asia to become a global player. The growing middle class in countries like India and China contributes to its growth. The company continues to innovate to stay ahead in the competitive travel industry.
