1Architecture Integrated with Nature

Sanctum is a nature therapy retreat located in the Lithuanian forests. The wooden structures, quiet and dark during the day, light up from within in the evening, glowing like lanterns at the forest edge. This design transforms architecture from a building into an invitation.

2The Meeting of Tradition and Modernity

Arches studio designed Sanctum based on the silhouette of traditional rural buildings. The roof lines were extended upward to create a harmonious dialogue with the silhouettes of the surrounding trees. This approach ensures the structure integrates seamlessly with nature.

3Sustainability with Natural Materials

Sanctum's exterior is clad in ecologically modified pine using Kebony technology. The material was left untreated to age naturally. This maintenance-free method highlights sustainability.

4Warmth and Brightness Indoors

Whitewashed pine and cross-laminated timber panels were used in the interiors. These materials create a warm and inviting atmosphere, contrasting with the exterior's rugged appearance. Panoramic windows bring natural light inside.

5Design for Community Activities

At the heart of Sanctum is a semi-covered inner courtyard. This space is designed for community activities like yoga and movement sessions. The courtyard connects to a transformable main hall, offering flexible use.

6An Invitation to Feel Nature

Sanctum aims to bring people back to their fundamental needs. It is designed to feel the wood, notice the changing light, and register the silence. This retreat offers a compelling option for those seeking to reconnect with nature.
