1Strategic Equity Dilution Plans

Punjab & Sind Bank intends to dilute 8-10% of government stake during the 2027 financial year. This move aims to raise approximately ₹1,500 crore to satisfy the regulatory mandate of 25% minimum public shareholding. The government currently holds a 93.85% stake, necessitating these phased equity issuance rounds to ensure compliance.

2Ambitious Growth Targets

The bank projects an overall business growth of 15% for the 2027 fiscal year. This expansion is supported by anticipated credit growth of 16-18% and deposit growth between 13-14%. Management aims to push total business volume past the ₹3 trillion milestone, moving toward a long-term target of ₹4 trillion by 2029.

3Margin Management Strategies

Management targets a net interest margin of 2.85-2.90% by the end of the fiscal year. A recent 25-basis-point repo rate hike is expected to provide an immediate 8-10 basis point benefit. However, the bank anticipates some margin compression as it reprices deposits and faces rising borrowing costs in a competitive market.

4Focus on Retail Lending

The lender is shifting its portfolio mix toward retail, agriculture, and MSME advances, which currently comprise 61.37% of total lending. The bank aims to elevate this share to 65% by March 2027 and 70% by 2028. This strategy prioritizes segments offering better margins compared to highly rated corporate loans with limited returns.

5Deposit Mobilization Challenges

Mobilizing deposits remains a critical priority amid intense competition from capital markets for household savings. The bank has launched targeted campaigns for recurring and fixed deposits while strengthening salary account propositions for government employees. They expect seasonal support from the rabi harvesting cycle in the third quarter to boost deposit inflows.

6Network and Geographic Expansion

The bank plans to expand its physical footprint from 1,700 branches to 2,000 by 2029. New locations will target southern, western, central, and northeastern India to diversify beyond traditional northern markets. Additionally, the bank aims to deploy over 2,000 ATMs and 6,000 business correspondents to reach a total of 10,000 touchpoints.

7Digital and Operational Upgrades

Digital transformation remains central, with 12 loan products already digitized and a new mobile application, PSB UnIC, rolling out by June 2027. The bank is also bolstering cybersecurity with a new resilience operations centre launching in January 2027. These investments aim to modernize IT infrastructure and improve overall service delivery efficiency.

8Asset Quality and Outlook

The bank expects gross non-performing assets to decline from 2.09% to 1.75% by March 2027. Net NPAs are targeted to fall below 0.5%, supported by a recovery goal of ₹1,500 crore. Furthermore, the upcoming GIFT City branch will enable the bank to capture foreign currency deposits previously inaccessible to the lender.
