IBGE Opens Selection Process for Over 27,000 Temporary Census Workers
Brazil's statistics agency seeks thousands of field workers for the upcoming agricultural census.
1Massive Recruitment Drive
The Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics, known as IBGE, has officially launched a selection process for 27,279 temporary census takers. These professionals are required for the 12th Agricultural, Forestry and Aquaculture Census. Candidates must register through the Fundação Cesgranrio website starting November 6, with the application window closing on November 25.
2Application Requirements and Fees
Interested applicants must pay a registration fee of R$ 70 to participate in the selection process. The official notice was published on Wednesday, November 4, in the Diário Oficial da União. This document outlines all necessary criteria for candidates aiming to secure one of the thousands of temporary positions available nationwide.
3Compensation and Benefits Structure
Selected workers will receive a fixed monthly salary of R$ 1,741, supplemented by a performance-based variable component of up to R$ 2,629. Total monthly earnings can reach R$ 4,370 depending on productivity. Additionally, staff are entitled to an R$ 1,192 food allowance, pre-school assistance, vacation pay, and a thirteenth-month salary proportional to their service.
4Core Field Responsibilities
Recenseadores are tasked with identifying and visiting agricultural establishments across assigned sectors. Their daily duties include conducting in-person interviews with rural producers and recording data via electronic mobile devices. Furthermore, they must update property registries, capture precise geographic coordinates of visited sites, and ensure all collected information is transmitted securely to IBGE systems.
5Contract Duration and Extensions
The initial employment contract is set for a period of six months. However, the legislation governing temporary federal public administration roles allows for potential contract extensions. Under current regulations, the total duration of these temporary engagements can be extended for up to four years, provided specific institutional requirements and legal conditions are met.
6Operational Quality Standards
Beyond data collection, professionals must strictly adhere to productivity and quality targets established by the institute. Participation in mandatory training sessions is required to ensure standardized data gathering. Maintaining the confidentiality of all information provided by rural producers is a critical obligation for every census taker throughout their entire period of service.
7Logistical Support Provided
To facilitate the extensive field work required for the 12th Agricultural Census, the IBGE provides specific financial support. Beyond the base salary and food allowance, the agency offers dedicated assistance for travel expenses incurred during work-related displacements. This ensures that census takers can effectively reach remote agricultural properties across the national territory.
8Strategic Census Significance
This large-scale operation is essential for updating national data on agricultural, forestry, and aquaculture production. By deploying over 27,000 workers, the IBGE aims to capture a comprehensive snapshot of Brazil's rural economy. The success of this census depends on the efficiency of these temporary workers in gathering accurate, high-quality data from producers.
