1Ukraine-Exclusive Crypto Tournament

Kraken has launched a special futures trading tournament to celebrate Ukraine's Independence Day. Running from August 13 to September 13, 2026, the competition features a total prize pool of 11,200 USDG (Kraken's dollar-backed stablecoin). The tournament was created to address Ukrainian users' disadvantages in global competitions. Participants will be ranked based on absolute profit and loss (P&L) performance.

2Prize Distribution and Participation Rules

10,000 USDG will be distributed among the top 43 traders: First place wins 2,000 USDG, second gets 1,500 USDG, and third receives 1,000 USDG. The remaining 40 participants will earn prizes between 100-400 USDG. An additional 1,200 USDG bonus pool will be equally divided among all participants who achieve at least $1 in qualified profit. Residents from occupied territories (Crimea, Donetsk, Luhansk) are banned from participating.

3Dual Competition Integration

The tournament runs parallel to Kraken's global Bitcoin and gold trading competitions during the same period. Ukrainian traders can earn points in both national and global leaderboards with the same trades. The platform allows all USD-denominated futures pairs. Participants' trades will automatically count toward both competitions.

4Evaluation Criteria

Rankings will be based on absolute P&L rather than percentage returns. Both realized and unrealized profits/losses will be considered, adjusted for account deposits/withdrawals. Participants need at least $1 net profit to qualify. Kraken's standard rules (tie-breakers, anti-manipulation policies, etc.) will apply.

5Prize Values in Local Currency

According to organizers' UAH conversions, the first prize equals approximately 90,000 UAH, second place 67,500 UAH, and third place 45,000 UAH. The total prize pool exceeds 500,000 UAH - about 20 times Ukraine's average monthly salary. The competition aims to boost crypto adoption in the country.

6Kraken's Ukraine Strategy

Kraken has been actively operating in Ukraine since 2022. The company donated $10 million after Russia's invasion and signed crypto cooperation agreements with the government. This tournament is part of Kraken's efforts to strengthen its regional presence. The competition intends to contribute to Ukraine's fintech ecosystem development.

7History of Crypto Trading Competitions

Trading tournaments aren't new in crypto exchanges - Binance has hosted regular competitions since 2019. However, Kraken is pioneering the national-specific tournament concept. Last year, Bybit's World Series of Trading (WSOT) set a record with $8 million in prizes. Kraken's Ukraine-focused approach might launch a new marketing strategy targeting local communities.

8Ukraine's Crypto Ecosystem

Ukraine boasts one of Europe's most active crypto communities. According to Chainalysis, the country ranks in the global top 10 for crypto adoption. Crypto usage increased by 60% during the war. Kraken's move highlights Ukraine's potential to become a fintech hub post-war. The competition represents a step supporting Ukraine's leadership claims in digital assets.
