Inspired by commercial refrigerators, the Do Hiemon Box maintains 15°C inside, with 5°C air flow targeting the head and neck for cooling within 10 minutes. ## Smart cooling technology The booth features three cooling modes and auto-shutoff after 20 minutes to prevent health risks from sudden temperature changes. Made with stainless steel panels and polystyrene insulation, the IPX3-rated unit operates on standard 100V outlets and stands 2 meters tall. ## Industrial-focused design Primarily designed for hot workplaces like factories and construction sites, the mobile booth consumes only 0.51 kWh hourly - half of spot ACs. With locking casters and low operating cost (~$1/hour), it offers practical heat relief for outdoor workers. ## Modular pricing options Priced at 1.5 million yen (~$9,200) for the standard model, options include crane eyebolt versions and portable power stations. The 93cm wide, 1.2m deep booth suits urban centers and outdoor events with its efficient cooling capacity. ## Signature Japanese engineering Drawing inspiration from Japan's ubiquitous vending machines, the booth reflects the country's practical approach to brutal summers. This fusion of traditional problem-solving with modern technology showcases Japan's innovative response to climate challenges. ## Climate adaptation milestone The Do Hiemon Box demonstrates how personal comfort solutions evolve with global warming. As a potential lifesaver for outdoor workers and event attendees, it underscores the importance of innovative approaches to increasing heatwaves worldwide. ## Sources covering this story - https://www.yankodesign.com/2026/07/23/this-human-refrigerator-chills-you-the-in-peak-summer-heat-anytime-anywhere/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=this-human-refrigerator-chills-you-the-in-peak-summer-heat-anytime-anywhere — --- _Summary written by Brifing from the original reporting.
