Wooden gateways frame open-air architectural park in Russia

Contemporary design blending historical motifs with nature

1Architecture integrated with nature

The 'Protivo Stoyanie' wooden structure in Russia's Kostroma region features twin gateways marking the transition between forest and field. Completed in 2025, it serves as both an entrance marker and landscape frame for the Galich Zaōzerye ecological trail.

2Historical connections

The project reinterprets the traditional 'frog's foot' motif from Galich's historic wooden window frames. This contemporary carving creates a visual bridge between new design and local architectural heritage.

3Functional design elements

Integrated information panels, viewfinders and benches guide visitors while providing resting spots. The structure offers wayfinding from the forest side and landscape viewing points from the field side.

4Natural material approach

The untreated timber structures are left to weather naturally with rain, snow and sunlight. This intentional choice emphasizes the project's environmental harmony and sustainability.

5Spatial transition experience

The twin gateways create both physical and visual transitions between contrasting landscapes. Its name 'Counter-Standing' reflects both the structural form and the dialogue between architecture and nature.

6Contemporary interpretation of heritage

The project develops an innovative design language while preserving regional identity. Despite Summer Drevolution'25 workshop constraints, it successfully blends craft tradition with modern architecture.
