Casio FX-870P Emulator: Web-Based Programmable Calculator
Browser-based emulator of the 1986 Casio FX-870P pocket computer
1Digital Revival of a Historic Device
The Casio FX-870P was a programmable calculator released in 1986. This project brings this historic device back to life with modern web technologies. The emulator, developed using TypeScript and Vue 3, is a web port of the original Delphi implementation.
2Full Hardware Emulation
The emulator accurately replicates the Hitachi HD61700 CPU including clock speed. All hardware components like the 96×64 pixel LCD, 83-key keyboard, and serial port are fully emulated. Even the original MD-120 floppy drive is supported via OPFS technology.
3Advanced Features
Beyond basic emulation, the project offers numerous advanced features. Turbo mode (50x speed), fullscreen mode, interactive character editor, and BASIC program editor enhance the user experience. Japanese and English ROM options are also available.
4Detailed Interface Components
The project implements every component with carefully designed Vue 3 components, from LCD rendering to keyboard input processing. Interface elements like debug panel, BASIC editor, and communication panel allow deep exploration of the device.
5Developer-Friendly Structure
The project is fully open source and available on GitHub. The codebase, compatible with modern frontend tools, encourages new contributions with detailed documentation and tests. Running on Node.js 22 LTS, it includes development server and production build commands.
6Homage to Tech History
This emulator project is not just a technical achievement but also a tribute to computer history. Preserving old technologies on modern platforms is crucial for software heritage conservation. It also serves as a valuable educational resource.
