The research aimed to measure awareness and reporting habits in sports like basketball, football, handball, and ice hockey. ## Low reporting rates The survey found that only one in five people who encountered or knew about sports manipulation attempts reported it. This underscores the importance of reporting in maintaining sports integrity. ## Uncertainty around insider information The research also highlighted uncertainty around the use of insider information. Some participants were unsure whether they had used or shared insider information, indicating a lack of clarity around the rules. ## Similar concerns across Europe The findings in Norway mirror concerns in other parts of Europe. In the Netherlands, cases were identified where professional athletes placed bets on their own sports, raising conflict of interest risks. ## The importance of education Authorities in Norway and the Netherlands emphasized that education is one of the strongest safeguards against sports manipulation. As sports betting expands, awareness of rules and responsibilities needs to increase. ## Steps to protect sports integrity The survey in Norway highlighted the need for better understanding of reporting duties and insider information rules. Education and awareness campaigns will play a crucial role in addressing these challenges. ## Sources covering this story - https://readwrite.com/norway-match-fixing-survey/ — --- _Summary written by Brifing from the original reporting.
