Gateway Mining Launches Five-Rig Exploration Blitz at Yandal Gold Project
Gateway Mining accelerates drilling operations at its Yandal project following previous contractor-related delays.
1Operational Momentum Restored
Gateway Mining has transitioned to a five-rig exploration program at its Yandal gold project in Western Australia. This follows a challenging six-week period where the company completed only five holes due to contractor issues. Management has now secured a third reverse-circulation contractor, successfully stabilizing daily drilling rates to over 300 metres.
2Strategic Drilling Deployment
The current fleet includes two reverse-circulation rigs, one diamond rig, and one aircore rig, with a second diamond rig arriving this week. The reverse-circulation rigs are targeting mineralisation along the Cowza-Celia South trend. Meanwhile, the diamond rig is twinning the original Cowza discovery hole to better understand the gold-bearing vein structure.
3High-Grade Discovery Context
The Cowza discovery remains a focal point after returning an intercept of 41 metres grading two grams per tonne of gold. This included a high-grade nine-metre core assaying 7.5 grams per tonne. Twinning this hole with diamond core provides essential geological data to guide the ongoing, extensive reverse-circulation drilling campaign across the site.
4Resource Expansion Targets
Once the second diamond rig is operational, it will test extensions to current mineral resources at the Horse Well deposit. Simultaneously, the aircore rig is exploring pipeline targets along splay structures branching from the Celia Shear zone. These efforts aim to increase the company's existing global gold inventory of 400,400 ounces.
5Financial and Market Position
Gateway Mining maintains a strong financial position, reporting 52.8 million dollars in its treasury at the end of the September quarter. This capital supports the intensive exploration blitz amid record-high spending in the Western Australian sector, which reached 843.6 million dollars in the June quarter, intensifying competition for specialized drilling equipment.
6Geological Significance of Yandal
The Yandal greenstone belt is a prolific region hosting major operations like Jundee, Bronzewing, and Darlot mines. Gateway’s tenure includes the Celia shear, a critical structure linking prospects such as the 108,900-ounce Dusk ’til Dawn camp and the 291,500-ounce Horse Well camp, providing a robust geological foundation for the company's multi-million-ounce gold ambitions.
7Leadership and Strategic Shift
A recent board reshuffle elevated Richard Pugh to managing director, sharpening the company's focus on exploration-led growth. Under his leadership, Gateway has identified multiple prospects including Haflinger, Hummer, and Rubicon. This leadership change aligns with the current aggressive operational strategy to deliver a potential resource upgrade in the coming year.
8Future Outlook and Goals
With operational hurdles resolved and a full rig fleet active, Gateway is positioned to accelerate assay results. The company aims to build upon its current inventory and establish a multi-million-ounce gold camp. Continued success in this exploration program is expected to drive significant value as gold prices remain elevated through 2027.
