1Permanence for Temporary Forms

MAJU's Jelly Lamp captures the wobbly essence of gelatin and inflated curves of balloon animals through 3D printing. Designer Hyu Lim merges soft geometries with digital fabrication precision. Emitting 2700K warm light, the 9.5x9.5x12.25 inch lamp suits home environments. Made from plant-based PLA material, it offers sustainable lighting solution while weighing just half a pound for easy portability.

2Organic Meets Technological

The lamp's fluted shade digitally interprets jelly's wobble effect. When lit, the translucent body glows with edible appearance using 2.9W LED bulb for ambient lighting. Manufacturing marks remain visible as design elements, eliminating traditional molds. The design balances confectionery aesthetics with industrial production traces through layered manufacturing techniques.

3Modular Sustainable Design

Lamp's shade and base components are independently replaceable. Integrated cord organizer maintains minimalist silhouette. Available in Cottage Core Pink, the 0.5-pound design combines Eastern and Western influences. MAJU studio operates between Singapore and California, producing on-demand to minimize inventory waste while allowing customization.

4Material Innovation

Fully 3D printed using plant-based biodegradable PLA, production occurs only after order placement. This approach reduces material waste and excess inventory. Surface printing layers create visual balance between dessert mold textures and industrial manufacturing marks. Material choice significantly lowers carbon footprint compared to conventional lighting production.

5Design Philosophy

MAJU studio challenges perceptions by making traditionally temporary forms durable. Natural processes like balloon deflation or jelly collapse become permanent features. The design blends Asian and Western aesthetics, positioning itself as illuminated sculpture rather than functional lighting. It represents contemporary intersection of biomimicry and digital fabrication.

6User Experience

Primarily serving as atmospheric lighting rather than primary light source, the lamp diffuses warm glow through translucent body. Compact dimensions make it suitable for bookshelves, nightstands or desks. Modular architecture enables personalization. The design creates cozy environments while showcasing innovative manufacturing approach.

7Industrial Design Trends

Jelly Lamp exemplifies contemporary fusion of organic forms with digital production. It pioneers sustainable alternatives by avoiding traditional manufacturing constraints. On-demand production optimizes inventory management. The project represents cutting-edge intersection of biomimicry and digital fabrication in product design landscape.

8Design Significance

This project redefines dialogue between transience and permanence in design. It demonstrates how natural forms can evolve through industrial production. Using sustainable materials, it leads eco-conscious design movement. As part of MAJU's plant-based home collection, it stands out in global design scene by merging aesthetics with environmental responsibility.
