Court Details Bungonia Farm Evidence in Sydney Double Murder Trial
Former officer Beau Lamarre-Condon faces murder charges over Jesse Baird and Luke Davies deaths.
1Supreme Court Trial Opens
Former NSW police officer Beau Lamarre-Condon is standing trial in the NSW Supreme Court for two counts of murder. The 31-year-old accused has pleaded not guilty to the February 2024 shooting deaths of former television presenter Jesse Baird and Qantas flight attendant Luke Davies.
2Farm Connection from Dating App
Prosecutors presented a statement from a 20-year-old man who met Lamarre-Condon on Hinge in 2023. Lamarre-Condon stayed at his father's Bungonia farm in November 2023. The witness later saw Baird on social media posts and blocked Lamarre-Condon in January 2024 after communication dwindled.
3Body Disposal Efforts Detailed
The defence conceded that Lamarre-Condon unsuccessfully attempted to submerge the victims' bodies in a farm dam. He subsequently abandoned them inside surfboard bags near a nearby Greek monastery fence line. The defence claims he panicked after the shootings but acted entirely in self-defence.
4Ballistics Test on Bedroom Door
NSW Police conducted a ballistics test shot into Baird's Paddington share house door. An expert testified that both the test and original bullet holes measured approximately 10 millimetres. The residue analysis showed that the original shot was fired from outside at close range.
5Concealment of Bullet Trajectory
The Crown alleges Davies was shot through the door while attempting to call emergency services. Prosecutors claim Lamarre-Condon concealed the bullet hole using an adhesive hook on the inside and a felt pad externally, preventing investigators from immediately spotting the damage during initial checks.
6Conflicting Narratives on Motive
Prosecutors argue Lamarre-Condon developed an obsessive infatuation with Baird after their casual relationship ended in late 2023, subsequently killing Davies as a witness. Conversely, the defence maintains Lamarre-Condon entered disguised as a delivery driver to retrieve belongings before fatal physical struggles ensued.
7Forensic DNA Evidence Presented
Forensic testing revealed Davies's DNA inside the barrel of the police-issued Glock pistol. Testing on the weapon's grip and trigger identified profiles from at least three contributors, with Davies as a major contributor and Lamarre-Condon as a minor contributor alongside an unidentified third person.
8Debate Over Blood Backspatter
The jury requested clarification regarding expert testimony from a retired crime scene investigator. The defence argued that biological material traveling back through a tiny door hole into a gun barrel was highly improbable, though the police expert maintained that backspatter could follow the bullet's path.
