1Gambling Debt and Money Laundering

Derek Rockette lost $1.5 million from cocaine trafficking through gambling. He attempted to repay this debt using international money laundering networks but failed. During this process, he conducted numerous large cash transfers.

2Illegal Activities

Rockette was involved in a cocaine trafficking operation from 2016 to 2021. He also laundered drug money over a four-year period. Court records showed he owed money to two money laundering organizations.

3Cash Transfers and Capture

In 2018, Rockette gave $200,000 to one person and later transferred another $158,720. However, this money was intercepted by the DEA and Illinois State Police while en route to Chicago. He also quickly deposited $59,114 into a bank account before sending it to Mexico.

4Confidential Sources and Money Tracking

Rockette gave $100,000 to a DEA confidential source, and the money reached a Chinese money laundering organization. Authorities discovered that this organization used a trade-based money laundering scheme and seized $222,300.

5Weapon Possession and Capture

In 2019, Rockette fled from St. Louis Metropolitan Police and DEA agents but was eventually caught with a firearm. Due to a prior conviction in 2008, he was prohibited from possessing firearms. During a traffic stop in 2021, cocaine, fentanyl, and a heroin mixture were seized.

6Operation and Outcome

Rockette's case was handled under 'Operation Take Back America,' led by the DEA, FBI, and other agencies. This operation focuses on international criminal organizations and violent crimes. Rockette was sentenced to 15 years in federal prison.
