1Centralized Training Structure

The Singapore Armed Forces inaugurated the Digital and Intelligence Service Training Command on November 6, 2026, at Bukit Panjang Camp. This new entity consolidates various training units under one umbrella to provide a more structured approach. It aims to equip personnel with essential competencies to operate effectively within the modern security landscape.

2Six Core Domains

The command focuses on six critical operational areas: intelligence, cybersecurity, digital, command, control, communications and computers, electronic protection, and information defence. By centralizing these disciplines, the Ministry of Defence intends to foster a more skilled, adaptable, and operationally ready workforce capable of navigating the complexities of today's increasingly digital security environment.

3Addressing Rapid Obsolescence

Major-General Lee Yi-Jin emphasized that expertise in digital fields has a notably short shelf life due to rapid technological advancements. The command’s primary mission is to ensure personnel maintain mastery over their crafts. By continually updating curricula, the service aims to prevent established working methods from becoming obsolete against emerging threats.

4Practical Learning Integration

Training methodologies incorporate real-world experiences and lessons learned to ensure relevance and practical application. Military Expert 5 Quek Sheng Quan noted that modern threats differ significantly from historical challenges, necessitating constant adaptation. This curriculum design ensures that personnel remain responsive to the specific, evolving demands of the current global security climate.

5Continuous Professional Development

The launch includes the Advanced School for Continuous Education and Development, which provides out-of-schoolhouse learning pathways. This institution supports personnel growth throughout their entire careers, from foundational levels to advanced leadership. It reflects a strategic shift toward lifelong learning to keep pace with the fast-moving nature of digital and cyber technologies.

6Future School Expansions

The command plans to establish additional specialized schools throughout 2027 to broaden its training scope. Upcoming institutions include the Intelligence Technology and Analysis School, focusing on artificial intelligence, and a Joint Intelligence School. These facilities will train professionals to assess complex security developments and identify emerging threats to Singapore’s national interests.

7National Servicemen Integration

The new command also enhances training for operationally ready national servicemen, known as NSmen, who are vital to sustaining service capabilities. Structured training opportunities allow these personnel to deepen their competencies and adapt to changing operational requirements. This ensures the entire force remains proficient and prepared to support broader military operational needs.

8Human-Centric Defense Strategy

Military Expert 7 Steven Lim highlighted that technology alone does not determine defense capability; the people behind the systems are the true difference-makers. By fostering innovation and continuous learning, the command aims to improve decision-making during operations. This approach ultimately strengthens Singapore's ability to safeguard its digital domain against sophisticated adversaries.
