BlackRock Drives Record Bitcoin ETF Inflows and Expands Structured Products
A massive institutional rebound in Bitcoin contrasts with persistent outflows across major altcoin funds.
1Sharp Reversal in ETF Flows
United States spot Bitcoin ETFs opened the week with roughly $527 million in net inflows, reversing prior losses. The single-session intake erased all of the previous week's $229 million in net redemptions. Total Bitcoin ETF trading volume reached $2.09 billion, lifting aggregate net assets to $105.46 billion.
2BlackRock Dominates Bitcoin Demand
BlackRock’s IBIT led institutional demand by attracting $665.16 million in a single day, marking its highest daily inflow of 2026. This surge followed a $165 million decline the prior week. IBIT's intake alone absorbed redemptions of $83.63 million from Fidelity's FBTC and $54.93 million from Grayscale's GBTC.
3October Flow Rebound
Monday's performance marked the strongest net intake since September 22, when spot funds drew $714.7 million. The broader group had previously endured two consecutive weeks of aggregate outflows, including a $681 million drop earlier in October. Despite Monday's recovery, total monthly net flows remain approximately $88 million in negative territory.
4Ether Funds Face Sustained Selling
In stark contrast to Bitcoin, spot Ether ETFs recorded $103.28 million in net outflows on Monday, led by a $95.40 million exit from BlackRock's ETHA. Fidelity's FETH and Grayscale's ETHE shed $5.96 million and $1.92 million respectively. This extends Ether's three-week redemption streak, bringing total assets to $14.77 billion.
5Altcoin Outflows Broaden
Solana funds registered an 11th consecutive day of outflows as Bitwise and Fidelity products combined for a $6.72 million exit. Grayscale's Zcash product lost $10.45 million, while XRP and HYPE recorded flat flows. Conversely, Bitwise's NEAR fund countered broader institutional selling by securing $5.42 million in fresh inflows.
6New Buffered Bitcoin Strategy
Alongside capital inflows, BlackRock filed a preliminary SEC prospectus for the iShares Bitcoin Managed Protection ETF under the ticker PBIT. Unlike spot vehicles, the actively managed fund will hold options contracts tied directly to IBIT. The proposed structure is designed to limit downside risk while capping maximum potential upside returns.
7Options Mechanics and Risk Terms
PBIT utilizes three overlapping tranches of options contracts, resetting one layer each month. Each individual tranche targets an initial maximum loss buffer of approximately 10% before applicable management fees. However, BlackRock explicitly cautioned that the fund does not guarantee a fixed floor, meaning investors can absorb excess losses.
8Selective Asset Expansion
The PBIT filing marks BlackRock's third Bitcoin strategy, complementing existing income-focused and spot products alongside two Ether funds. While analysts note the asset manager continues to bypass spot Solana and XRP vehicles, the introduction of structured derivative wrappers demonstrates an institutional push to broaden mainstream exposure across major crypto assets.
