1Loyalty to electric vehicles is rising

According to CDK Global's 2026 report, only 1% of electric vehicle (EV) owners in the US are considering switching back to gasoline or diesel vehicles. This figure was 21% in 2025. 94% of EV owners say they would never return to a car with an internal combustion engine. This rapid shift highlights how quickly attitudes toward EVs are changing.

2High satisfaction among EV owners

90% of EV owners surveyed plan to purchase another electric vehicle in the future. 92% would recommend EVs to friends or family, and the same percentage intend for their next car to be electric. Overall satisfaction among owners stands at 93%. These numbers demonstrate the growing preference for EVs over gasoline vehicles.

3EVs are drivers' favorites

85% of EV owners consider their current electric vehicle the best they've ever owned. 79% say it's the best car they've ever driven. In France, EVs accounted for 28.2% of all new private vehicle sales in the first half of 2026. This growth rate is second only to hybrids.

4Savings and performance are key drivers

EV owners cite savings and performance as the main reasons for the growing interest in electric vehicles. Cheaper electricity in most areas and lower maintenance costs make the total cost of owning an EV attractive compared to gasoline vehicles. The quiet and smooth driving experience is also a favorite among drivers.

5Charging concerns are diminishing

EV owners report that their concerns about charging have decreased over time. Charging at home has become the norm, and starting each day with a nearly full battery eliminates the need for gas station visits. The availability of fast-charging stations boosts confidence on longer trips.

6Long-term EV owners are more loyal

Satisfaction with electric vehicles increases over time. Long-term EV owners are more loyal than newer users. Interestingly, 11% of respondents now also own a gasoline vehicle, suggesting some households are adding a gas car alongside their EV rather than switching back.

7Public charging infrastructure remains an issue

Public charging stations remain a sticking point for many drivers. Survey respondents called for more stations, greater reliability, and faster charging speeds. The fact that most charging happens at home helps alleviate concerns about the public network for now.

8The future of gasoline vehicles is uncertain

Whether public charging infrastructure can keep up with expanding EV adoption remains uncertain. For the 1% still tempted to return to gasoline vehicles, this may be the final hurdle. Other global and US surveys support CDK's findings. Loyalty to electric vehicles continues to grow stronger every day.
