MSI Claw 8 EX AI+ Review: Powerful Performance, Surprising Price
The next-gen gaming handheld MSI Claw stands out with its hardware and design.
1Hardware and Connectivity Options
The MSI Claw 8 EX AI+ offers various connectivity options, including Thunderbolt 4 USB-C, a microSD slot, and a 3.5 mm audio jack. With SSD upgradeability and Wi-Fi 7 support, the device features a future-proof design and a premium 'Void Purple' finish.
2Ergonomic Design and Controls
The device provides a comfortable gaming experience with Xbox-standard control layout and Hall-effect sensor-equipped analog sticks. LED-lit sticks and resistant triggers ensure comfort during long gaming sessions, though the D-pad's shape may require some getting used to.
3Software and User Interface
Running on Windows 11, the MSI Claw features a full-screen Xbox Mode for centralized game management. Two rear buttons allow for customization, ensuring compatibility with platforms like Steam for a seamless experience.
4Display and Image Quality
The IPS panel with 500 nits brightness delivers a crisp and vibrant image. With 120 Hz VRR support, the device promises smooth gameplay, and the 16:10 aspect ratio offers more screen real estate. However, the lack of an OLED panel is noticeable.
5Portability and Versatility
Despite its 785-gram weight, the ergonomic design of the MSI Claw ensures comfortable use. The built-in kickstand provides a practical solution for TV connectivity, and the Thunderbolt Go dock allows easy integration into media setups.
6Performance and Chipset
The Intel Arc G3 Extreme chipset, based on Panther Lake architecture, delivers a significant performance boost. With XeSS technology for smart upscaling and frame generation, the device stands out among its competitors.
