## An era ends in American politics

Long-serving Republican Senator Lindsey Graham from South Carolina passed away at 71 due to a sudden illness. Known as a close ally of Donald Trump, Graham held influential positions in the Senate and was a key figure in recent political debates.

## Medical cause revealed

Official reports indicate Graham died from an aortic dissection caused by arteriosclerotic cardiovascular disease. Medical experts describe this as a life-threatening emergency condition that often proves fatal despite immediate treatment.

## Recent Ukraine visit

Shortly before his death, Graham had visited Ukraine and met with President Zelenskyy. The senator had been working across party lines on issues including Russia sanctions and Ukraine's defense systems during his final days.

## Long political career

With 23 years in the Senate and federal politics since 1994, Graham chaired powerful committees including the Budget Committee. He represented a safe Republican seat in South Carolina and was preparing for reelection.

## Creates political vacuum

Graham's sudden death weakens the Republican majority in the Senate ahead of the 2026 midterms. Combined with Senator McConnell's health issues, this loss may hinder the party's legislative priorities in coming months.

## Complicated relationship with Trump

Initially a vocal Trump critic, Graham became one of his strongest allies. Despite brief tensions after January 6 events, he recently led efforts to pass controversial election reform legislation supported by Trump.

## End of an influential era

Graham's passing marks the loss of a significant figure in American politics. His absence creates challenges for Republicans in both domestic policy and foreign relations, where he played key roles.
