1New MatePad Air introduced
At its event in Malaysia, Huawei unveiled the new MatePad Air (2026) alongside the Pura 90s series. The tablet features a 12-inch OLED display with 144Hz refresh rate and stands out with its PaperMatte coating that mimics paper texture, enhancing the reading experience.
2Visual and audio experience
The tablet delivers premium audio with its 6-array stereo speakers. The PaperMatte display technology reduces glare, creating an ideal environment not just for multimedia but also for prolonged reading sessions. These features bring the Air closer to Huawei's higher-end Pro lineup.
3Performance and hardware
Powered by the Kirin T93C chipset, the device comes with either 8GB or 12GB RAM options. Storage is fixed at 256GB. According to Huawei, this chipset can handle some AI-powered professional features. The camera setup has been simplified to a single 50MP main sensor.
4Battery life and charging
The tablet is equipped with a large 10,100 mAh battery supporting 66W fast charging. Approximately 50 grams lighter than its predecessor, the device measures just 5.3mm thick and weighs 509 grams. Color options include Sakura Pink, Airy Blue, and White.
5Accessory support
MatePad Air maintains compatibility with Huawei accessories. Most starter bundles include a detachable keyboard. The M-Pencil Pro stylus offers smart features like Air Mouse functionality, enabling interaction from a short distance without touching the screen.
6Competitive positioning
With the MatePad Air (2026), Huawei presents a strong contender in the mid-range tablet market. Combining paper-like display technology, lightweight design, and professional features, the device emerges as an attractive option particularly for content consumers and mobile professionals.
