1Bitcoin Purchase Details

Strategy acquired 1,665 BTC for approximately $142.7 million between September 21 and September 27. The average purchase price was $85,681 per Bitcoin. This acquisition follows the company’s purchase of 950 BTC the previous week, marking a separate transaction rather than a restatement of the earlier buy.

2Total Bitcoin Holdings

With the latest acquisition, Strategy’s total Bitcoin holdings now stand at 847,666 BTC. These coins were acquired for an aggregate cost of approximately $63.95 billion, including fees and expenses. The average acquisition price per BTC is $75,437, reflecting the company’s long-term investment strategy.

3Funding the Purchase

Strategy financed the Bitcoin purchase through the sale of its MSTR common stock. The company sold roughly 1.47 million shares through its at-the-market program, generating approximately $246.2 million in net proceeds. Of this amount, $142.7 million was allocated to Bitcoin, while $103.5 million was used for other purposes.

4Preferred Share Repurchase

In addition to acquiring Bitcoin, Strategy repurchased approximately 1.53 million STRC preferred shares for around $151.7 million. The repurchase was funded with $103.5 million from the stock sale proceeds and $48.1 million of existing cash, showcasing the company’s active capital management.

5Capital Structure Management

Strategy’s recent activities highlight its focus on managing both sides of its capital structure. The company is simultaneously issuing common stock, increasing its Bitcoin position, and reducing the amount of outstanding preferred securities. This dual approach underscores Strategy’s commitment to optimizing its funding strategy.

6Complex Capital Strategy

Strategy has developed a complex capital structure around its Bitcoin treasury, utilizing common shares, convertible debt, and several classes of preferred securities. This structure provides various ways to raise capital or distribute income, reflecting the company’s innovative approach to financial management.

7Balancing Bitcoin and Securities

By repurchasing STRC shares while continuing to accumulate Bitcoin, Strategy is actively managing the cost and composition of its funding. This strategy contrasts with simply issuing securities indefinitely, demonstrating a more nuanced approach to capital allocation.

8Integrated Financial Operations

Strategy’s recent actions illustrate its integrated approach to financial management, where Bitcoin accumulation and capital-market engineering are effectively one operation. This week’s significant expenditures on both fronts highlight the company’s strategic focus on balancing its portfolio and optimizing its capital structure.
