Ajith Ram became the fourth player in nine decades of Tamil Nadu cricket history to score a century and take five or more wickets in a single First Class match. He joins an illustrious trio consisting of A.G. Ram Singh, B.C. Alva, and S. Vasudevan in this exclusive record. ## Overcoming Severe Injury The achievement is particularly significant as Ajith Ram recently recovered from complete tears of the anterior cruciate ligament and meniscus in his right knee. Only a year ago, the left-arm spinner was uncertain if he would ever play professional cricket again, making this performance a deeply emotional career milestone. ## Dominant Match Performance In the Ranji Trophy Elite Group D clash against Chandigarh, Ajith struck an unbeaten 115, marking his maiden century. He followed this batting display by claiming seven wickets in the second innings, directly contributing to Tamil Nadu’s crushing victory by an innings and 260 runs at the Sector-16 Ground. ## Strategic Team Success Tamil Nadu secured its third consecutive victory this season, earning seven points and reaching a total of 21. Head coach Yo Mahesh emphasized that these results stem from playing as a cohesive unit rather than relying on individual brilliance, fostering an environment where players feel secure and express themselves freely. ## Focus and Mental Approach During his innings, Ajith maintained intense focus, claiming he did not look at the scoreboard even while in the 90s. He prioritized contributing to the team's success by improving his lower-order batting, noting that championship-winning teams historically rely on significant contributions from players batting in the lower positions. ## Camaraderie and Recognition The team's unity was highlighted during the presentation ceremony when Pradosh Ranjan Paul, who was named Player of the Match for his double-century, requested that the honor be given to Ajith Ram. This gesture reflects the strong camaraderie and mutual support currently defining the Tamil Nadu squad's internal culture. ## Technical Match Conclusion The final morning of the match saw Tamil Nadu complete its domination in just 47 deliveries. Ajith Ram dismissed Rohit Dhanda and Nikhil Sharma in the same over before removing Jagjit Sandhu to conclude the contest, showcasing the clinical efficiency that has characterized the team's performance throughout this season. ## Future Competitive Outlook As Tamil Nadu continues its strong run in the Ranji Trophy, the focus remains on maintaining this collective momentum. The team's ability to integrate individual brilliance, like Ajith’s historic performance, into a unified strategy suggests they are well-positioned for further success in the remaining rounds of the Elite Group D. ## Sources covering this story - [The Hindu – Cricket — Ajith Ram Joins Elite Tamil Nadu Cricket History](https://www.thehindu.com/sport/a-dream-game-for-me-says-ajith-ram/article71671255.ece) - [Source — Tamil Nadu Secures Third Consecutive Ranji Trophy Victory](https://sportstar.thehindu.com/cricket/domestic/ranji-trophy-2026-27-tamil-nadu-innings-win-chandigarh-winning-formula-yo-mahesh/article71671338.ece) - [Source — S.
