CNC-cut timber modules form SAGA's compact summerhouse in Denmark

EcoNeo project redefines sustainable living spaces with space-habitat inspired design.

1Compact Yet Functional

Designed by SAGA Space Architects, the EcoNeo summerhouse accommodates six people in just 35 square meters. With two sleeping lofts, a shared living area, and a garden-facing terrace, it offers a modern interpretation of traditional Danish summer cottages.

2Nature-Integrated Design

Large windows and strategically placed openings blend interior spaces with surrounding nature. The design captures seasonal light variations while enhancing energy efficiency. The oak shingle cladding is selected to develop a natural patina over time.

3Digital Fabrication Techniques

All components were CNC-milled as labeled modules, reducing construction waste by up to 80% while enabling assembly without heavy machinery. This parametric approach allows precise control over every joint and connection.

4Smart Living Systems

EcoNeo features a sensor network inspired by SAGA's space habitats. It monitors air quality and automatically adjusts windows, blinds, and sauna operations. Circadian lighting supports natural sleep cycles in the compact environment.

5Sustainable Material Selection

Biogenic materials like oak shingles, Douglas fir, and birch reduce carbon footprint. Wood-fiber insulation enhances energy efficiency while maintaining recyclability. The structure emits 80% less CO2 compared to conventional Danish summerhouses.

6Future Housing Paradigm

EcoNeo serves as a manifesto for transforming living spaces in an era of urban density and climate crisis. Its small footprint, smart systems, and harmony with nature push sustainable architecture boundaries, bringing SAGA's space research knowledge back to Earth.
