Despite strong financial performance, the company aims to align its cost structure with being 'a stable resource for creators.' ## Restructuring details Laid-off employees will receive 16 weeks severance, additional week per year worked, health benefits through year-end, and laptop stipend. Some will get extra payments. The company is transitioning to a 'flattened' organizational structure. ## AI's dual impact CEO Conte emphasizes AI can't replace human creativity but fundamentally changes operations. Having previously stated 'we'll fail in 3 years without adapting,' Conte acknowledges this technology is transforming the business model. ## Protecting creators On July 16, Patreon implemented Cloudflare's AI Crawl Control to limit AI firms scraping creators' works. The platform's shift toward social media-like free content makes creators' output more vulnerable to unauthorized use. ## Crawler policy The company permits discovery-friendly search bots while blocking AI training scrapers. This strategy reflects Patreon's effort to maintain discoverability while defending creator rights in the AI era. ## Turning point for creator economy Patreon's moves highlight content platforms' dual challenge in the AI age: adapting to technology while preserving human creativity's value. This sets an important precedent for other industry players navigating similar transformations. ## Sources covering this story - https://www.engadget.com/2222170/patreon-is-laying-off-20-percent-of-its-staff/ — --- _Summary written by Brifing from the original reporting.
