1Strategic Shift Toward Growth

Urban Company is intentionally absorbing mounting losses to scale its InstaHelp service. While core business segments show improved profitability, the company prioritizes long-term market penetration over immediate gains. CEO Abhiraj Bhal confirmed that the firm is investing from a position of strength rather than reacting to competitive intensity in the home-services market.

2Financial Performance and Losses

Revenue climbed 41.4% year-on-year to ₹537.3 crore in the September quarter, exceeding consensus estimates. However, net losses widened significantly to ₹182.5 crore compared to ₹59.3 crore previously. The consolidated adjusted Ebitda loss reached ₹144 crore, largely driven by the aggressive expansion and operational costs associated with the InstaHelp segment.

3Operational Metrics and Scale

Consolidated net transaction value rose 39.1% to ₹1,432.3 crore, with total orders doubling to 15.1 million. Annual transacting users grew by 34.5% to nearly 10 million. The company now services top cities with professionals available within 30-60 minutes, reflecting improved supply-demand matching across its 17 primary operational urban markets.

4Core Business Profitability Gains

Excluding InstaHelp, the core business generated ₹119 crore in adjusted Ebitda over the past three quarters, a 175% increase. India consumer services margins rose 110 basis points to 3.5%, while international operations saw margins grow by 190 basis points to 2%. These figures demonstrate the underlying stability of established service categories.

5InstaHelp Dynamics and Pricing

InstaHelp orders grew 63% sequentially to 6.23 million, though net order value dropped to ₹114. The company targets a steady-state model of ₹200 per hour, but current pricing remains lower to encourage adoption. Management acknowledges that order volumes might fluctuate as pricing normalizes toward the intended sustainable model in coming years.

6Capital Strategy and Flexibility

The board approved a qualified institutional placement of up to ₹2,500 crore to ensure strategic flexibility. With ₹1,901 crore in cash and investments, the company aims to fund potential acquisitions across its Native and international segments. Management stated that while no immediate deals are planned, the capital provides a long-term buffer.

7Native Segment and Expansion

Urban Company is testing residential air conditioner services under its Native brand, leveraging data from over a decade of repair history. Initial distribution is concentrated on the app to gather consumer feedback. R&D costs for this segment currently impact adjusted Ebitda, but the company expects this to stabilize within two years.

8Future Profitability Targets

The company maintains its target of reaching consolidated adjusted Ebitda breakeven by the third quarter of fiscal year 2028. By fiscal year 2031, it aims for an adjusted Ebitda of ₹1,000 crore. Success depends on recruiting and retaining professionals while scaling InstaHelp into a primary household utility for Indian consumers.
