Path of Exile 2 Launches Full 1.0 Version in December
Grinding Gear Games expands the ARPG with new classes, acts, and base-building mechanics.
1Full Release Date Set
Path of Exile 2 officially exits early access on December 11 with its 1.0 release. This major update completes the campaign by adding acts five and six, concluding the narrative journey of chasing the Beast. Players will return to Oriath while encountering new bespoke rare monsters featuring unique abilities and specific mods.
2New Classes and Combat
The update introduces the Shadow and Duelist classes, each bringing distinct mechanical depth. Shadow utilizes stealth, traps, and clone-based skills, while the Duelist focuses on sword stances like blood and sand. These additions support diverse combat styles, including dual-wielding, two-handed weapons, or sword-and-board configurations, significantly expanding the game's existing tactical build variety.
3Conquerors of Wraeclast League
The 1.0 launch features the Conquerors of Wraeclast league, centered on a base-building mechanic. Players recruit armies and construct castles, reminiscent of strategy games like Heroes of Might and Magic. Over 70 points of interest throughout the campaign allow for soldier recruitment, which players can then deploy to battle enemy forces.
4Faction-Based Castle Control
Players choose between Karui, Ezomyte, or Marraketh factions to battle for control over various castles across the atlas. Controlling these locations grants travel advantages, increased item rarity, and access to nearby hunting grounds. Commanders can also be recruited to run maps automatically, converting gold into progression and loot while players focus elsewhere.
5Endgame and Atlas Overhaul
The endgame receives substantial changes, including over 25 new maps featuring bosses from the campaign. The atlas skill tree has been streamlined, reducing the node count from over 300 to approximately 70. This design shift aims to make progression more focused, allowing players to reach the Arbiter of Divinity with greater strategic clarity.
6Gem and Passive Updates
Support gems have been overhauled to improve utility, such as consolidating elemental penetration gems into a single, more effective version. Passive tree changes include relocating jewel slots into actual skill clusters rather than just travel nodes. These adjustments aim to increase build diversity and prevent the homogenization of endgame character skill trees.
7Loot and Itemization Changes
The update introduces powerful new base types, such as armor providing curse immunity, alongside 40 new unique items. Additionally, over 70 existing unique items have been overhauled to increase their desirability. A new crafting system allows players to remove and reroll specific mods into fractured versions using currency found during combat encounters.
8Impact on ARPG Landscape
After two years of early access, the 1.0 release represents a significant milestone for the franchise. By integrating complex base-building with traditional ARPG loot mechanics, Grinding Gear Games aims to satisfy both new players and veterans. This comprehensive update sets a new standard for content density and mechanical depth in the genre.
