Android 17's new iOS migration tool arrives on Samsung foldables
Google announces enhanced data transfer capabilities from iPhones in updated tool.
1New migration tool introduced
Google unveiled the upgraded iOS migration tool for Android 17 at Android Show I/O Edition 2026. The feature is now available on Samsung's new foldables and Pixel series, though older Pixel models won't receive this update.
2Supported devices
The updated Android Switch tool first launched on Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8, Z Fold8 Ultra, and Z Flip8. Pixel 8, 9, and 10 series will also get the feature with Android 17. Google mentioned support for more devices is coming soon.
3Data transfer scope
The new tool can transfer a wide range of data from iPhones including Google Account, passwords, app data, Wi-Fi credentials, alarms, settings, home screen layout, iMessage history, voice memos, eSIMs, and WhatsApp chats.
4Samsung's new foldables
The supported Galaxy Z Fold8 series starts at $1,899 for 256GB/12GB RAM configuration. The Ultra model begins at $2,099, while Z Flip8 offers a more affordable option at $1,199.
5Situation for Pixel users
While Pixel 8 and above will receive the new migration tool, Pixel 6 and 7 series users won't get this update. Google hasn't explained the technical reasons behind this decision.
6Impact on user experience
This update removes a significant barrier for users switching from iOS to Android. The ability to transfer critical data like WhatsApp chats and iMessage history will significantly ease cross-platform transitions.
