1A Son's Loving Project

Jake Laser sought a solution beyond ordinary wheelchairs for his father, who has been battling MS for 20 years. This quest led to the idea of transforming a robot dog into a mobility chair. The project is a striking example of how technology can change lives.

2Modification of the Unitree Robot Dog

Jake began his work based on Unitree's industrial robot dog, which had a hybrid design with both wheels and legs. Using these features, Jake designed a mobility chair to help his father overcome obstacles.

3Engineering Challenges and Solutions

Mounting a seat on the robot and ensuring its balance required significant engineering effort. Jake recalibrated the robot's sensors and motors to adapt to human weight. He also added a safety belt and control system.

4Automotive Inspiration in Design

Jake drew inspiration from 1940s Bugatti cars for his design. He added curved body panels, carbon fiber details, and LED lighting, turning the robot into a personalized vehicle for his father. These details made the robot both functional and aesthetic.

5Rigorous Testing and Success

The robot underwent numerous challenging tests, from stairs to rocky riverbeds. Jake ensured the robot remained balanced in all conditions to guarantee his father's safety. These tests proved the robot's reliability.

6Father's Freedom and Emotional Moments

Jake's father accessed places he hadn't been able to visit for years using the robot. This experience held deep emotional significance for both father and son. Jake used technology to give his father freedom and new memories.
