Casa Macahuite: Modern Home Design Integrated with Mexico's Nature
Studio Font's residential project in Puerto Escondido harmonizes with nature.
1Architecture Integrated with Nature
Casa Macahuite is a residential project designed by Studio Font and built in Puerto Escondido, Mexico. It consists of five planes (four vertical walls and a pergola) arranged in harmony with the natural landscape. This design maintains a continuous visual connection with the sea and mountain views.
2Climate-Centric Design
The project is shaped by climatic conditions and environmental factors. Intermediate spaces provide shade and cross-ventilation, creating comfortable living areas in the hot climate. The design maximizes natural airflow throughout the structure.
3Material Selection and Details
Concrete serves as the primary construction material, offering both durability and modern aesthetics. The 'floating' pergola design adds a sense of lightness to the space. All material choices were made considering the regional climate conditions.
4Spatial Flow and Functionality
The 300-square-meter house follows an open-plan concept. Blurring boundaries between indoor and outdoor spaces creates seamless transitions. This approach integrates living areas with the natural surroundings effectively.
5Local Collaborations and Implementation
Local contractor Efraín Salinas Ríos and various engineering teams participated in the project. Electrical and mechanical systems were specially designed for regional conditions. Structural engineering solutions enhance earthquake resistance.
6Exemplary Sustainable Architecture
Casa Macahuite represents successful environmentally conscious modern housing design. Its efficient use of natural resources and climate-responsive solutions stand out. The project gained international recognition when featured on ArchDaily in 2026.
