Eagle Believed to Be Jackie Healing in Ojai
Internet-famous eagle Jackie is receiving treatment at Ojai Raptor Center.
1Jackie's Condition
The Ojai Raptor Center is caring for Jackie, the internet-famous eagle. Found weak and unable to fly by San Dimas Raptor Rescue in July, Jackie is now being evaluated by the veterinary team. She is underweight but alert and eating with assistance.
2Veterinary Care
The Ojai Raptor Center is providing meticulous care for Jackie. Treating wild animals differs from domestic pets, as there are no owners to provide information. Each case starts with many unknowns, and bloodwork and toxicology results will shape the treatment process.
3Jackie's Family
Jackie, her partner Shadow, and their chicks Sandy and Luna are watched by millions via a 24/7 livestream. While Jackie is being treated, Shadow is taking care of the chicks. The fledging period is approaching, and the chicks face numerous threats.
4The Chicks' Future
Jackie and Shadow's chicks, Sandy and Luna, will leave the nest at 10-14 weeks old. However, they may face threats from other birds of prey and weather conditions. A past snowstorm resulted in the death of one of their chicks.
5Jackie and Shadow's History
Jackie and Shadow have been together since 2018 and successfully raised chicks in 2019 and 2022. However, their eggs failed to hatch in 2023 and 2024. Only 50% of eagle eggs hatch successfully, and this pair has already beaten the odds.
6How You Can Help
Environmental groups are fundraising $10 million to protect Jackie and Shadow's foraging area. You can also support Jackie's treatment by donating to Ojai Raptor Center's Bald Eagle Recovery Campaign. These efforts contribute to the conservation of wildlife.
