CEO Carl Pei confirmed users can separate Notifications and Quick Settings. Interface changes like a smaller navigation bar are also expected. The update will be detailed on August 25, 2026, at 11:00 AM BST. ## Models Missing the Update Nothing Phone (1), Phone (2), and CMF Phone 1 won't receive the Nothing OS 5.0 update. The promised major Android updates for these models have been fulfilled. Phone (1) was guaranteed 3 years of updates, others got 3 major updates. Security updates will continue until mid-2027. ## User Expectations Users on Nothing Community forum are requesting multitasking improvements. Easier access to floating apps, better window management, and pinned apps surviving 'Clear All' are top demands. Faster access to Quick Settings controls like brightness is also wanted. ## Software Review Program Nothing organized a review program for OS 5.0. Participants needed to own a Phone (3) and have software/UX expertise. Selected reviewers get early access and provide feedback. Applications closed on August 17, 2026. ## Phone (3) Discounts Nothing Phone (3) is currently on sale. The 12GB RAM + 256GB model is $599 (down from $799), while the 16GB + 512GB model is $699 (down from $899). This represents 25% and 22% discounts respectively. The Glyph Matrix turns the back into an interactive display. ## Glyph System Capabilities Phone (3)'s Glyph Matrix technology transforms the back panel into a small interactive display. Users can utilize it for notifications, animations, timers, games, and at-a-glance information. It's marketed as Nothing's most capable Glyph system yet. ## Update Significance Nothing OS 5.0 will bring significant UX improvements, especially in notification management and multitasking. However, these updates won't be available for older model users. This situation reignites discussions about software support durations in the smartphone industry. ## Industry Software Support Trends Smartphone manufacturers typically provide 3-4 years of major OS updates. Nothing follows these standards. However, consumers demand longer software support periods. This issue gains importance from an environmental sustainability perspective. ## Sources covering this story - https://www.talkandroid.com/530220-nothing-os-5-phones/ — --- _Summary written by Brifing from the original reporting.
