Experiential retail store in Jinjiang, China
Where traditional culture meets contemporary design
1Project background
Jinjiang is known as China's 'Capital of Brands'. Beyond its strong manufacturing heritage, the city is enriched by Maritime Silk Road culture, traditional Minnan architecture, and overseas Chinese heritage. The project builds on Jinjiang's footwear and apparel industry, bringing together local brands, design, and cultural experiences into one cohesive space.
2Architectural details
Spanning 275 square meters, the store serves as Jinjiang's first flagship experience store in Xunpu. Led by design directors Sunny Zhao and Ryo Ono, the team created a modern interpretation of traditional Minnan architecture. The design incorporates elements from the region's iconic hairpin flower tradition and historic houses, blending them with contemporary retail concepts.
3Cultural integration
The project creates a platform connecting manufacturing, culture, and tourism in Jinjiang. By merging the historical texture of the Maritime Silk Road with modern retail experiences, the store offers visitors a unique cultural journey. The fishing village character of Xunpu also plays a significant role in the design narrative.
4Design team and collaborations
Designed by COLORFULL YUJING DESIGN, the project features retail planning strategy by Shejie Technology Group. Fujian Zhongchuang United Construction Engineering Group handled construction, while brands like Nanchow supplied materials. The team comprised over 10 designers and specialists working on various aspects of the project.
5Tourist appeal of the region
Xunpu has gained fame as a cultural destination for its iconic hairpin tradition and historic Minnan houses. The Super Jinjiang store enhances this appeal by offering both shopping and cultural exploration opportunities. The coastal fishing village atmosphere is carefully integrated into the store's ambiance.
6Industrial context
Jinjiang stands as one of China's leading footwear and apparel manufacturing hubs. The project revitalizes this industrial heritage through contemporary design, celebrating the 'Made in Jinjiang' spirit. The store functions as a showcase for local brands while introducing them to new audiences.
7Architectural photography
Project photographs were captured by Pixel Force, highlighting the store's architectural details and cultural elements. The images successfully convey the harmony between traditional and modern components, effectively communicating the project's essence through visual storytelling.
8Project significance
The Super Jinjiang store represents more than just retail space—it serves as a cultural bridge. By combining traditional craftsmanship with modern design, it aims to boost the local economy and support tourism. Scheduled for completion in 2026, the project will contribute significantly to the region's identity.
