1The Building's Story

This 375-square-meter structure had been abandoned for years, gradually losing its structural integrity and safety. Although partially occupied, it couldn't withstand the ravages of time. In 2022, architect Ricardo Azevedo brought it back to life. Fénix Engenharia Civil handled engineering, while AAR Déco was responsible for interior design.

2Architectural Approach

Azevedo developed a design that preserved the building's original character while meeting modern living standards. The historical fabric was respected, with contemporary elements skillfully integrated. This balance became one of the project's most notable aspects. Photography was done by Ivo Tavares Studio.

3Location and Context

The house is located in Portugal's Santo Tirso region, known for its traditional Portuguese architecture. The project stands as a successful example of urban regeneration. It harmoniously coexists with other historic buildings in the area, maintaining visual and cultural continuity with its surroundings.

4Structural Details

The 375-square-meter living space was planned to meet modern family needs. Effective use of natural light dominates interior spaces. Material choices balance durability and aesthetics. Original elements were restored while contemporary materials were used for new additions, creating a dialogue between past and present.

5Interior Design

Designed by AAR Déco, the interiors reflect a blend of minimalism and comfort. The rational distribution of functional spaces stands out. High-standard fixtures were chosen for kitchens and bathrooms. Visual and physical continuity was established between living areas and outdoor spaces.

6Sustainability Features

Energy efficiency was prioritized in the project. Thermal insulation and passive climate control systems minimized energy consumption. Renewable energy sources were incorporated where possible. Water-saving fixtures and recycled materials were consistently used throughout the property.

7Architectural Impact

This project serves as an important example of how historic structures can be adapted to modern needs. It has inspired similar projects in the region and received positive reviews in architectural circles. Completed in 2022, it gained significant attention on international architecture platforms.

8Conclusion and Significance

Parque IV House proves that architectural heritage preservation can coexist with contemporary living standards. Ricardo Azevedo's work demonstrates the potential of abandoned structures. The project stands as a successful implementation of sustainable architecture principles, setting a benchmark for similar transformations.
