Casa Óculo: A Minimalist Family Home in Palma
Designed by OHLAB, this contemporary Mediterranean residence is shaped by light and materiality.
1Project Highlights
Casa Óculo is a single-family residence located in the suburbs of Palma. Featuring a large flat roof stretching from east to west, the project uses light, materials, and climate as primary design tools. The 572 m² house is situated on a south-facing slope.
2Architectural Approach
OHLAB team created a contemporary Mediterranean home with a clear, rational form. The design responds to mountain views and the client's structured program. The simple yet bold architectural gesture balances spatial efficiency with tactile quality.
3Spatial Organization
The structure optimizes climate control by placing living areas to the south and bedrooms to the north. Large glass openings strengthen indoor-outdoor connection while natural light floods interior spaces. Material palette adapts to local climate conditions.
4Design Elements
The flat roof form serves both aesthetic expression and functional solution. Interior materials create warm ambiance while minimalist details establish modern language. The building forms strong sense of belonging with its context.
5Sustainability
The project prioritizes energy efficiency through passive climate strategies. Orientation and mass organization maximize natural ventilation and daylight. Use of local materials reduces carbon footprint.
6Architectural Significance
Casa Óculo offers an authentic interpretation of contemporary Mediterranean architecture. The design combines simplicity with functionality while engaging in dialogue with local context. Upon completion in 2025, it will contribute to regional architectural identity.
