These documents, known as the 'Bayley papers,' contained many sheets in Turing's own handwriting, revealing important details about his secret 'Delilah' project. ## The Delilah Project Delilah was a portable voice encryption system developed by Alan Turing between 1943 and 1945. Named after the biblical figure Delilah, who deceived men, this system was used for secret communication and reflected Turing's mathematical genius. ## Bayley's Contribution The Bayley papers consist of notes taken by Bayley while Turing was speaking. Bayley kept these documents until his death in 2020, ensuring that information about Turing's work and the Delilah project survived to the present day. ## Encryption History Turing's Delilah project is a significant milestone in the history of encryption. This system paved the way for modern cryptography and voice encryption technologies. Turing's work laid the foundation for today's secure communication systems. ## Auction Details The Bayley papers were sold at an auction in London for nearly half a million dollars. These documents contained Turing's handwritten notes and technical details about the Delilah project. The auction attracted the attention of history and technology enthusiasts. ## Turing's Legacy Alan Turing's Delilah project played a crucial role in the development of modern technology. Turing's work laid the foundation for today's encryption and secure communication systems. This discovery serves as a reminder of Turing's enduring legacy. ## Sources covering this story - https://www.schneier.com/blog/archives/2026/07/details-of-alan-turings-voice-encryption-system.html — --- _Summary written by Brifing from the original reporting.
