CJP Leaders Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka Sent to Tihar Jail
Two political activists face five-day judicial custody over alleged peace bond violations in Delhi
1Five-Day Judicial Custody Ordered
Cockroach Janta Party leaders Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka were remanded to five-day judicial custody on Wednesday and lodged in Tihar Jail. An Executive Magistrate issued the order after the duo allegedly breached peace bonds and trespassed into the denotified protest zone at Jantar Mantar.
2Trespassing and Sloganeering Allegations
Police detained the leaders early Tuesday after they allegedly breached security barricades to access Jantar Mantar without authorization. While inside, the activists raised slogans demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls.
3Prior Bond Commitments Breached
Both Das and Ranka had previously signed formal bonds committing to maintain public peace for one full year. Authorities obtained these legally binding undertakings after detaining the two political leaders during an earlier protest demonstration that took place on the preceding Saturday.
4Formal Police Charges Filed
Law enforcement officials registered comprehensive cases against the activists covering multiple legal violations. The formal charges include criminal trespassing, violating existing prohibitory orders, breaching signed peace bonds, and obstructing on-duty public servants from discharging their official administrative and security responsibilities.
5Associate Bail Formalities Underway
A third associate, Ajinkya Shinde, was also produced alongside Das and Ranka before the Executive Magistrate on Wednesday morning. Unlike the two primary party leaders facing immediate jail detention, police sources confirmed that Shinde is currently completing his requisite bail bond formalities.
6Capital Security Measures Intensified
The arrests occurred amid significantly heightened security deployments across the national capital region. Authorities escalated monitoring following sustained public demonstrations organized by the CJP and affiliated groups challenging the leadership of the Election Commission and specific electoral roll revision procedures.
7Party Leadership Condemns Action
CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke publicly condemned the central administration, accusing officials of using heavy-handed tactics to suppress political dissent. In a social media statement, Dipke argued that the activists were merely unfurling the national flag and exercising their fundamental democratic rights.
8Regulatory Scrutiny on Protests
The judicial remand highlights the strict enforcement of administrative peace bonds against political organizers in restricted zones. This enforcement demonstrates how municipal protest zone denotifications empower executive authorities to bypass standard bail mechanisms and implement swift preventive custodial detentions.
