With the introduction of the new Pencil in 2024, there are now four different options available, each with distinct features and compatibility requirements. ## First-Gen Apple Pencil Priced at $99, the first-gen Apple Pencil offers pressure and tilt sensitivity but lacks magnetic attachment. It requires a Lightning connector and is compatible with older iPad models, though newer iPads may need an adapter. ## USB-C Apple Pencil The $71 USB-C model is ideal for note-takers as it lacks pressure sensitivity. It features magnetic attachment but no wireless charging. Its Hover Mode allows previewing actions before screen contact. ## Second-Gen Apple Pencil At $129, the second-gen model includes wireless charging and a double-tap feature. However, it's been discontinued by Apple and isn't compatible with newer iPad models, working only with older Air and Pro versions. ## Apple Pencil Pro The $99 Pro model introduces squeeze gestures and haptic feedback. With a built-in gyroscope and Find My support, it's the most advanced option but only works with the latest iPad Air and Pro models. ## Must-Have iPad Accessories Essential iPad accessories include the Twelve South Curve Mini stand, Zugu case, and Logitech Combo Touch keyboard. These enhance both protection and productivity for iPad users. ## Choosing the Right iPad in 2026 When selecting an iPad in 2026, consider Apple Pencil compatibility, screen size, and processor generation. Models with M-series chips will offer better long-term performance and value. ## Sources covering this story - https://www.wired.com/gallery/the-best-ipad/ — --- _Summary written by Brifing from the original reporting.
