Guide to Enabling Emergency Features on Google Pixel
Discover life-saving emergency features on Google Pixel.
1Emergency Features on Google Pixel
Google Pixel offers a range of features designed to keep users safe during emergencies. Many of these features need to be enabled before a crisis occurs. The Personal Safety app, pre-installed on Pixel phones (4a and later), serves as the central hub for managing emergency information. Other Android devices can download this app from the Google Play Store.
2Safety Check and Location Sharing
The Safety Check feature ensures your safety when you're alone. It prompts you to confirm your status after a set time and shares your location with emergency contacts if you don't respond. This is particularly useful for risky activities like night runs, parties, or rideshares. You can enable Safety Check and set the duration in the Personal Safety app.
3Emergency Contacts and Medical Info
The Personal Safety app stores information that first responders might need in emergencies. You can add medical details like allergies, medications, and blood type, and designate emergency contacts. This information can be made accessible from your phone's lock screen. Additionally, you can enable Emergency Sharing to automatically send your location to emergency contacts.
4Emergency SOS Feature
Emergency SOS is a collection of features designed to quickly call for help in emergencies. It includes functions like calling emergency services, sharing your location, and recording video. This feature can be activated by pressing the power button five times quickly or automatically. You can set up Emergency SOS and select emergency contacts in the Personal Safety app.
5Emergency Alerts and Earthquake Notifications
Android can send emergency alerts for severe weather, natural disasters, or local crises, including AMBER alerts. You can manage how you receive these alerts in the settings menu. Additionally, earthquake alerts can be enabled in certain regions like California, Oregon, and Washington, making this feature useful in earthquake-prone areas.
6Car Crash Detection
Google Pixel can detect severe car crashes and automatically call emergency services. This feature uses your phone's location, motion sensors, and microphone data. However, it's not available in all countries and requires several permissions to function. You can enable Car Crash Detection and configure its settings in the Personal Safety app.
7Lock Screen Message
You can add a message to your phone's lock screen to convey critical information to anyone assisting you in an emergency. This message can include severe allergies or medical conditions. It can also be used to share secondary contact information if your phone is lost. This feature is accessible from your phone's lock screen.
8Satellite SOS for Out-of-Service Areas
On Pixel 9 and later models (excluding Pixel 9a), you can connect to emergency services via satellite when cellular data or wifi is unavailable. This feature requires Google Messages as the default messaging app. When dialing an emergency number, you'll see a Satellite SOS button to initiate a connection via satellite, which can be life-saving in remote areas.
