Running a Website Inside Another Website
Experimenting with WASM to run a Linux terminal and forum site in the browser.
1Discovery Process
I came across a WASM-based Linux terminal emulator called linuxontab. This emulator provides a full Linux environment inside your browser. The question that intrigued me was: Can I run a website inside another website? This idea excited me, and I decided to give it a try.
2Experiment Setup
I booted the Alpine Linux image with networking support and quickly cloned the repository of Torum, a small forum software. For installation, I needed a few essential packages: Python 3, Tor, SQLCipher, and OpenSSL. I managed each step through the terminal.
3Dependencies and Configuration
I installed all the necessary dependencies one by one. Using the Tor network, I set up a hidden service network and configured SQLCipher for database encryption. For macOS users, I also set up torsocks and curl packages.
4Server Launch
After completing all preparations, I started the server. Following the terminal instructions, I got the Torum forum software up and running. Seeing the server successfully come online was quite satisfying.
5Access and Testing
I accessed the forum site I created via Tor Browser. The site was running smoothly, and I tested all its functions. Seeing a website running inside another website was truly fascinating.
6Conclusion and Insights
This experiment was an important step in testing the boundaries of modern web technologies. It demonstrated what can be done in a browser environment thanks to WASM and Linux emulators. Such projects, offering new possibilities for developers, pave the way for exciting advancements in the tech world.
