1Warren Buffett's Plan

Warren Buffett plans to donate his entire Berkshire Hathaway stake to four charitable foundations within the next eight years. This process will be completed by 2034, showcasing a significant act of philanthropy.

2Distribution of Shares

Buffett converted 8,000 Class A shares into 12 million Class B shares. The Sherwood Foundation, Howard G Buffett Foundation, and NoVo Foundation will each receive 1 million shares, while the Susan Thompson Buffett Foundation will receive 9 million shares.

3Role of His Children

Buffett hopes his three children will complete the distribution of his shares by 2034. Grants to the foundations managed by his children will increase annually, with donations to the Susan Thompson Buffett Foundation growing at a faster pace.

4Buffett's Current Holdings

Buffett currently owns 188,290 Class A shares and 1,162 Class B shares of Berkshire Hathaway. All these shares will be donated to the foundations by 2034. Buffett emphasized that mortality is unpredictable but the donations will proceed.

5Leadership Change at Berkshire Hathaway

Greg Abel became CEO of Berkshire Hathaway at the start of this year. Abel has taken over daily operations, signaling a new era for the company while Buffett remains active. Buffett's investment philosophy is expected to remain unchanged.

6Berkshire's Investment Strategy

Abel has begun deploying the company's record cash pile. Last month, Berkshire invested $10 billion in Alphabet shares. This investment made Alphabet one of Berkshire's top five holdings, led by Apple.
