This advanced feature enables automatic door unlocking as users approach, offering superior reliability and performance compared to Bluetooth-based smart locks. First showcased at CES 2026, it stands out as one of the few UWB-enabled smart locks currently available in the market, setting new standards for home security convenience. ## Advantages of UWB Technology Ultra Wideband (UWB) is a radio technology providing high accuracy in short-range communication. In the Schlage Sense Pro, UWB enables precise location detection for unlocking, consuming less power than Bluetooth while offering enhanced security. These characteristics position UWB as a potential new standard for smart home security systems, with applications extending beyond just door locks to comprehensive home automation solutions. ## Apple Home Key Integration Designed for seamless integration with the Apple ecosystem, the Schlage Sense Pro allows iPhone and Apple Watch users to unlock their doors automatically when approaching. This hands-free operation proves particularly convenient for users carrying items. However, the current version exclusively serves Apple users, potentially limiting its immediate market reach until broader platform support becomes available in future updates. ## Design and Hardware Specifications The Schlage Sense Pro boasts a sleek, modern design with a slimmer profile than many competitors. Constructed with a stainless steel body, it combines aesthetics with durability. The built-in battery lasts up to one year under normal usage conditions. As a fail-safe measure, the lock maintains traditional key access, ensuring entry remains possible during rare technology failures or power outages. ## Position in Smart Home Ecosystem Compatible with Apple HomeKit and other smart home systems, the Schlage Sense Pro enables remote control and access management. These features prove particularly valuable for rental property owners and families seeking to manage multiple access permissions. Future updates are expected to expand platform support, potentially integrating with more smart home ecosystems and voice assistants beyond Apple's offerings. ## Market Position and Competitors Currently, only a handful of UWB-enabled smart locks exist in the market, positioning the Schlage Sense Pro as an early leader in this technological frontier. Major competitors like Yale and August are known to be developing similar UWB solutions. As this technology gains traction, the smart lock market may experience intensified competition, potentially driving innovation and price adjustments across the industry. ## Potential Limitations for Users The current version of Schlage Sense Pro exclusively caters to Apple users, leaving Android device owners without support. Its premium pricing also positions it above conventional smart locks. Additionally, UWB technology's full potential requires broader device ecosystem support, meaning users might need to upgrade other smart home components to experience comprehensive benefits in the future. ## Future of Smart Lock Technology The Schlage Sense Pro may herald a new era in smart home technology, with UWB offering significant security and convenience advantages. Industry analysts predict substantial growth in the smart lock market between 2026-2030, with UWB technology expected to proliferate across more devices. This evolution could transform not just door locks but entire home security and automation systems in coming years. ## Sources covering this story - https://appleinsider.com/articles/26/08/20/schlage-sense-pro-review-uwb-home-key-proves-itself-again-on-this-sleek-smart-lock?utm_source=rss — --- _Summary written by Brifing from the original reporting.
