Apple Music subscription prices are increasing next month
Apple raises monthly fees for its music service by $1 across all plans.
1Apple Music price hike
Following recent price increases for Macs and iPads, Apple has now raised subscription fees for its Apple Music service. The individual plan increased from $10.99 to $11.99, while the family plan jumped from $16.99 to $19.99. The student plan rose from $5.99 to $6.99 per month.
2Changes to Apple One bundles
Apple One bundles saw partial price increases. The family plan in the U.S. went from $25.95 to $27.95, while the Premier bundle increased from $37.95 to $39.95. UK prices for these bundles remained unchanged. The individual bundle price stayed the same.
3Comparison with competitors
Even with the new pricing, Apple Music remains cheaper than Spotify, which raised its Premium subscription from $11.99 to $12.99 earlier this year. Apple's other service, Apple TV+, saw a $3 increase last year to $12.99 per month.
4Reason for the increase
Apple cited 'rising licensing costs' as the reason for the price hike. The company's Services division, which includes App Store purchases and subscriptions, continues to show consistent growth. Last quarter, this segment generated $31 billion in revenue.
5Impact on users
The price increase will particularly affect family plan users, with an approximately 18% jump. Apple's move may prompt consumers to reevaluate their subscription spending during this period of economic uncertainty.
6Industry-wide trend
Apple's decision is part of a broader trend of price increases in digital subscription services. Post-pandemic, many digital platforms are passing cost increases to subscribers. This situation requires consumers to be more selective about managing their subscriptions.
