The incident occurred just one day before the official opening of the Broadway revival of A Few Good Men. ## Sibling Charged With Murder Police arrested 31-year-old Asia Nguyen-Duy following reports of a smoking vehicle near the Oberlin College conservatory. Asia faces six counts of murder, four counts of felonious assault, and one count of tampering with evidence. The suspect, who resides in Ashland, Oregon, was taken into custody without incident by local law enforcement officers. ## Courtroom Proceedings and Bond During a hearing on October 29, Judge Farah L. Emeka set the bond at $3 million. Asia, who requested the use of gender-neutral pronouns, did not enter a plea. The case has been referred to a Lorain County grand jury to determine the next steps in the formal legal process against the suspect. ## Prosecution's Alleged Evidence Prosecutor Zachary Simonoff stated that Asia allegedly recorded a video statement accepting responsibility for the actions. Additionally, police reports indicate that Asia provided the home address to officers and admitted to killing family members. These claims remain allegations that must be tested in court, as the suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty. ## Academic Legacy at Oberlin Pipo Nguyen-Duy was a respected professor who joined Oberlin College in 1998, teaching studio art and photography. A political refugee from Vietnam who arrived in 1975, he was an internationally exhibited artist and a Guggenheim Fellowship recipient. His death has deeply affected the college community, which is now mourning his significant professional influence. ## Campus and Community Response Oberlin College briefly issued a shelter-in-place order during the initial police response to ensure student safety. President Carmen Twillie Ambar described Pipo as a beloved colleague and teacher. The institution is currently providing support services for affected students and staff while planning future gatherings to honor the lives of Pipo and Phong. ## Impact on Broadway Production Despite the family tragedy, the Broadway production of A Few Good Men proceeded with its scheduled opening at the Vivian Beaumont Theater on October 29. Quentin Nguyen-Duy, who performs alongside actors like Bradley Whitford, has not released a public statement. His mother, Élan Chardin Gombart, has requested privacy and compassion for the grieving families. ## Ongoing Investigation Status Investigators have not yet established a clear motive for the killings or provided a comprehensive account of the events inside the South Pleasant Street residence. As the criminal case moves through the Ohio courts, the community awaits further details. The focus remains on the legal process and supporting those impacted by this event. ## Sources covering this story - https://www.ibtimes.co.uk/quentin-nguyen-duy-family-shooting-ohio-sibling-charged-1829690 — --- _Summary written by Brifing from the original reporting.
